Cebu is the center of commerce, trade, education and industry in the Visayas Region and is one of the most developed provinces in the Philippines.

Because of its extensive international port facilities, about 80% of domestic shipping is located in Cebu. It also has The Mactan International Airport, which has regular direct flights to Hong Kong, Singapore Busan-Gimhae and Seoul-Incheon (South Korea), Tokyo-Narita (Japan), and Doha (Qatar).

It also leads the whole country in exports, due in large part to its burgeoning furniture-making industry, and has been named as the furniture capital of the Philippines. Aside from its dynamic local manufacturing and design industries, more than a hundred multinational companies have established manufacturing plants and business process outsourcing offices in Cebu.

The United Kingdom based Conde Nast Traveler Magazine named Cebu the seventh best island destination in the Indian Ocean-Asia region in 2007, eighth best Asian-Pacific island destination in 2005, seventh in 2004 and in 2009.
